USB restrictions
to strengthen the security topics in the Vollers system, a new policy for using USB devices was integrated.
This affect all USB-sticks and all external harddrives.
Smartphones and external cameras will right now not be affected (see below), as well as all wireless mouses, keyboards and all kinds of headsets.
All other USB devices will be blocked and are unusable in the company. You will get a popup as seen below:
This policy will on the one hand reduce the risks of an unplanned loss of data and on the other hand will secure the system if malicious data is content of an USB-device.
Next to the technical issues, the General IT appeal to you to take care, while using USB devices in the future: Do not use any USB device, which is not connected to the company.
This topic will also be part of the coming IT-Security-Trainings and all user of USB devices will soon get further information.
To continue work with an essential USB device, please do as follows:
USB-Sticks / external harddrives
If you get the mentioned popup and you need the device in a company context, please follow this link and fill out the form:
https://forms.office.com/r/BVVuCAkVJw
After the form is filled and send, the General IT will unlock the USB device, as long as the reason is in the interest of the company.
Smartphones
Right now, smartphones will not be blocked, as we are planning the integration of an MDM system soon (more information about this topic will follow).
After the successful integration of the MDM, all smartphones will be blocked and the data transfer via USB will be blocked. The charging of smartphones is still allowed and supported.
To transfer data from a smartphone to the Vollers system, we recommend using OneDrive. If it’s not installed on your company smartphone, you are allowed to install the app.
external cameras
External cameras are handled as smartphones, they will be blocked after the integration of the MDM.
All other USB devices
If you are running into trouble while using another, not mentioned, USB device, just follow the link above and give us a detailed description of the device, so we can optimise the settings of the system.
[USB restrictions active since November 23th 2022]
